Though very cold early, it warmed up; unfortunately one player fell during warmups but ice-packs and bandages were available; fortunately she was able to return home in care of her friend.

Congrats to Laura S and Peter I for a close-fought match on court #1 . The finalists and semi-finalists were evenly matched as the scores reflect. The day was slightly overcast, warm but not as hot as the tennis was. Culinary treats reflected an ability to prepare homemade authentic British breakfast provisions including scones, sausage rolls, strawberries and cream and more, thank you to Felicity and Sam !

It did not rain...

There were many close matches on this seasonably warm day. In particular the MXD teams were closely matched, with several tiebreakers and a number of come-from-behind winners. The French menu of jus d'orange, croissant, patisserie sandwiches, escargots, salad de fruits and macarons francaise was enjoyed by all under the large tent after the competition.

Pickles were sweet, toasted bagels and creme cheese tasted great, and the organic deli sandwiches were good too. Chocolate chip cookies appeared for desert. In honor of tourney namesake "NY Open" a big apple was served. And in honor of the chef and creator of these tasty tournament menus over the past 5-years, an award was presented by Marla to Gretchen H. Enthusiastic, competitive tennis was also played on this wintery day. Winners were Rebecca W and Ravi P and Finalists were Chany S and Peter I. Consolation was won by Tess B & Eric B.

An unexpectedly warm fall morning in Palo Alto greeted 20 tournament players who proceeded to play a competitive 3 sets of tennis and then feast on scones, strawberries and creme, fruit and sandwiches. Repeat Wimbly winners Felicity and Sam showed continued improvement as they outshone the mixed doubles field once again. Mens singles was dominated by Peter I, who then rode off on his motorcycle (see pic).

Unexpectedly pleasant weather greeted the croissant - lovers who turned out in fine spirits to fill the Rinconada courts. Fittingly MXD winners Mike R and Daniele C both spoke the language of the day. Englanders Felicity G and Sam B came in a close second. In Mens Singles, tournament director Jim H managed a victory over always an tough competitor, Huan R.

Under a cloudy sky the Australian Vegemite reappeared but did not make much of a splash this time around, perhaps we are getting used to it - "It could be worse, I need to drink something," said Vittorio. "It's like soy Sauce," said Thomas. While MXD finalists played through a slight drizzle and the increasingly cool breeze their 10-pt tiebraker playoff extended to an overtime finish, 11 to 9 points.

The Paly-NY featured competitive tennis, warm weather, interesting conversation, good food, and lasting memories on Sunday (8/28). Congrats to MXD Winners Marla K and Brian M, and Finalists Karen C and Gavin W; and Mens Singles Winner Adrian and Finalist Abeezer. Every entrant received a Palo Alto Tennis Club's "City Slam Series" T-shirt. Food was tasty pastrami sandwiches, bagels and more. Thanks to all helpers and participants.

Paly-Wimbledon Tournament a Success

It was overcast early, then more and more sun shone until perfect tennis weather arrived at about the third and final rounds. All players played three rounds. There were consolation and double-consolation flights. There were 22 players plus 3 "meals-only", for a total of 25. We finished by about noon. The British pub food was popular, especially the organic scones, bangers and tea sandwiches. A good time was had by all. Volunteers helped to set up, man the tables, and clean up.

Paly French Tournament on 5/29/16 is a Success

Turnout was fine 16#, we also featured a "Challenge Court" event.

Players who didn't sign up for the tournament could still enjoy our event ! - By challenging on to the "Challenge Court" #6, where the winner remains on the court. First to 4 games is the winner. More than five additional players participated on the challenge court - who otherwise would not have been able to play during the event (Sgls and Dbls).
